A sudden loss of a young person can be difficult for many to process. The grieving process takes time and is very real and unique to each individual. It is normal for people to grieve the loss even if they do not know the person well. It is also common that a recent loss may trigger people to remember or relate to other losses in their life and the feelings related to those experiences.
