All referees must abide by Salvo Soccer Club’s Expectations and Requirements. Salvo SC reserves the right not to assign you for games and/or to remove you from games that you have already been assigned to for failure to abide by these Expectations and Requirements. These apply to ALL Salvo SC referees, irrespective of age or experience level.
Mandatory attendance at all games for which you are scheduled: If you fail to show up to a game that you have been assigned without contacting the Salvo Soccer Club’s Referee Assignor and/or without due cause, you may be removed from future assignments. If you find a sub for your game, you must notify Salvo Soccer Club's Referee Assignor before the game.
Arrive at each game with proper attire and equipment: All refs will wear proper refereeing attire: official referee (Yellow primary, recommend blue as backup) shirt, black footwear and black shorts (no stripes and proper length, short shorts or basketball shorts are not appropriate) and no jewelry. You also need to bring a whistle, flags, cards, a reliable stopwatch, etc. Salvo Soccer Club reserves the right to remove refs from future assignments of any referee who consistently fails to wear the proper attire or bring the necessary equipment.
Arrive at each game 30 minutes before the scheduled start time: All officials will arrive at the field a minimum of 30 minutes before kick-off, ready to check the teams in and start the game on time. If you are running late, please notify the other referees assigned to the game. If you do not have their contact info, call or text Colleen Hase, 612-655-3556 (if texting, please include your name and what game you will be late for). If you arrive late and a replacement has been called in, you will not be paid for that game. Salvo Soccer Club reserves the right to remove refs from future assignments who consistently fail to arrive in a timely manner.
Exhibit professionalism at all times: Professionalism includes your attitude and demeanor on the field, the manner in which you interact with players, coaches and spectators, and also such matters as only taking the monies due to you and informing the Referee Assigner or other club official of any known conflict of interest [e.g., refereeing a close friend or family member].
After Game Report: ALL refs, including ARs, need to enter information in GameOfficials for league games. After your game, go to “After Games” and click on the "Game Number". This will bring you to a new screen. You will need to enter the "Final Score" and then answer the "Game Summary Information" questions. These are three yes/no questions and you just click the box. If any of the questions are yes, please type a comment in the "Summary Notes To Admin Users". You can also type a comment in this section to report any concerns that we should be aware of, such as holes in the nets; marginal field conditions; issues with coaches, fans, or players; or other comments. Failure to do this WILL delay your pay. If someone else has already completed it, please verify that the information is correct and then click save.

GameOfficials Tips:
REQUESTING GAMES
You can request as many games as you want. However, the system will not let you request games that would create a conflict (same time or overlapping times). If you are not assigned a game, you should remove your request. Even if a game is assigned to others, the open request will prevent you from requesting other games or when the system is opened for self-assigning, the open request will prevent you from self-assigning for a period that there is an open request.
SELF-ASSIGNING
There are normally several games that refs turn back. These games will be opened up for self-assigning. If you did not remove the requests for games that were not assigned to you, the request could potentially prevent you from self-assigning. You will need to delete the requests before you can self-assign for a game that you have an open request conflict. Please check the system periodically. Usually, I will not send out e-mail notifications for open games unless the open game is less than 2 days away.
RESCHEDULES
If a reschedule occurs, your assignment status could change. If the reschedule is to the same day, your accepted status stays the same. If the game is rescheduled to a different day, then your status is changed to “posted” and you will need to go in and accept the change. If you do not accept the change, you will automatically be removed from the game by the system after 1 day. If the new game date is less than 1 day away and I don’t receive a quick response, I may remove you and assign someone else.
SYSTEM EMAILS
GameOfficials sends out emails for all changes to a game. If you receive an email that identifies “Official removed from game”, this means that one of the other refs is no longer on the game. If you are removed from the game, your email will state “Unassigned from game.”
SYSTEM TEXT NOTIFICATIONS
Please sign up for this so you will receive text messages about assignments and game changes. This needs to be done under the My Info section. Once you have done this, send yourself a test text by clicking the (Send Test Msg) link to verify it is working.
AVAILABILITY
For league games, the system assumes that you are available unless you have updated to mark as unavailable. Since the league assignments are based on your requests or self-assigning, it is not critical to keep it updated during the season. However, for Salvo SC tournaments, the system assumes that you are not available unless you mark that you are available. Assignments are done based on when you are available, so you do need to update for the tournament weekends.
BLOCK CERTAIN TEAMS
To block certain teams, go to “My Preferences” and click on “Add New Game Conflict”. Then enter the league and team. This can be used to block you from refereeing your sibling's game or blocking a team that you do not want to referee. Also, this needs to be updated annually. For example, in 2021, you blocked the DKTGU13C201. If you don't change this for 2022, you could still be blocking this team even though they moved up to U14C2.
BLOCK YOUR HOME GAME AVAILABILITY
Same as blocking teams, input your team and then click on the “Block Availability” box. Then whenever you have a home game, it will show you as unavailable during the game. By doing this, it will prevent you from accidentally signing up for a game when you are playing. Or if you are already signed up for the game and there is a date/time change, I will receive a notification of a scheduling conflict.

Salvo Soccer Club started the Referee Mentor Program in 2011 with one mentor and the desire to improve the level of refereeing and retention of youth referees. We have conducted several on-the-field training sessions and have mentored hundreds of referees. Several Salvo SC referees have upgraded to State Grade 6 and State Track Grade 7 level referees. Salvo SC referees have been selected to attend the SRC Referee Academy and to referee at Region II Championships and ODP events. Salvo SC referees have also been awarded the MYSA Youth Referee of the Year award.
Salvo Soccer Club has teamed up with other clubs in the area to provide our referees with beginner, intermediate, and advanced program levels.
Member clubs include:
BEGINNER-INTERMEDIATE
These sessions are for referees with 0-2 years of experience. They consist of an hour of classroom training and refereeing and/or assistant refereeing 8v8 scrimmages. Please wear your referee uniform. If you are a new referee and have not purchased your uniform yet, please wear a yellow t-shirt, black shorts and black socks.
INTERMEDIATE
These sessions are for referees with 1-3 plus years of experience who are focusing on intermediate skills and improving their comfort in youth games. Sessions will include classroom training and scrimmages. Classroom sessions are approximately once a month in the off-season and will include different guest speakers.
If you are interested in participating in the Intermediate Mentor Group, please e-mail Colleen Hase.
ADVANCED
These sessions are for referees with 3 plus years of experience who want to officiate higher level youth soccer games and to advance to their next level. Sessions will include classroom training and scrimmages. The classroom sessions are approximately once a month in the off-season and will include different guest speakers. The group will also meet at a few tournaments during the MYSA Summer Season and take the SRC fitness test.
Members of this group have refereed in several different events and leagues, including State Cup; MYSA State Tournament; US Youth Soccer Region II tournaments; US Youth National tournaments; National League (formerly MRL); National Premier Soccer League; Women's Premier Soccer League; and high school, college, and adult leagues. Members of this group also train to become mentors and work with younger referees to provide them feedback.
If you are interested in participating in the Advanced Mentor Group, please e-mail Colleen Hase.
